Robinson Healthcare has considerable experience in the manufacturing and marketing of a portfolio of first aid products that includes adhesive plaster and bandages. From the first antiseptic dressings developed in the 1880’s in collaboration with Lord Lister, through to the acquisition of the Flexoplast adhesive plasters brand in 1959, Robinson Healthcare has always been at the forefront of manufacturing high quality products.
Today, the Robinson Healthcare Fast Aid brand of plasters, bandages and personal care products combine high performance with full compliance to appropriate legislation and standards. The range has been significantly developed and expanded since its introduction in the 1970’s to now offer a complete range of high quality plasters, wound dressings, tapes, bandages, wipes, absorbent lint and first aid kits for use by all the family.
The range has also been augmented by the introduction of Fast Aid Advanced. These high performance products bring professional woundcare technology to the home first aid market and offer advanced methods of protection and the promotion of fast, natural healing. The Advanced range delivers significant advantages to consumers, compared with standard home woundcare and provides the retailer with a premium product and the opportunity of increased revenues.
Virtually all Fast Aid brand products are classified as medical devices and are therefore manufactured in compliance with the Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, as enacted in UK law by The Medical Devices Regulations 2002. The products are determined as devices under Annex lX of the Directive, Rules 4 and 13. Robinson Healthcare Fast Aid plasters are either presented sterile - Class l or lla - or have a medicated, antiseptic pad – Class lll. Under the Directive, this means that the products require authorisation from an independent third party certification organisation, called a Notified Body, before a CE mark can be applied to the product. It is illegal to sell a medical device without a CE mark.
Class lll devices have the greatest level on legislative controls applied to them and are subject to a type examination by a Notified Body under Annex lll, which must also include clinical evidence derived from clinical trials to support the efficacy and safety of the device. Following this, Production Quality Assurance certification must be achieved. Class l and lla sterile plasters must achieve Annex V Production Quality Assurance for the sterilisation process. Robinson Healthcare’s Notified Body is BSI, who also certifies the manufacturing facility to a number of other required standards. Full details of the Directive and the requirements placed on manufacturers can be found here.
To further demonstrate the high level of care to which these products are manufactured, Robinson Healthcare is also independently certified to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Consumer Products. The BRC is the lead trade association representing the whole range of retailers, from large multiples through to independent stores. It is recognised worldwide as the authoritative voice of retailers. The Consumer Products Standard focuses on the manufacture of safe and legal consumer products of a consistent and required quality.
In summary, Robinson Healthcare is independently certified to the following standards:
Annex lX – Classification Criteria for Medical Devices
All non-invasive devices which come into contact with injured skin:
All devices incorporating, as an integral part, a substance which, if used separately, can be considered to be a medicinal product, as defined in Article 1 of Directive 65/65/EEC, and which is liable to act on the human body with action ancillary to that of the devices, are in Class III.
The overwhelming majority of Fast Aid brand products are manufactured by Robinson Healthcare in the UK at its Worksop manufacturing facility. This allows the company to maintain full control over the quality and supply of the products. Plasters are manufactured and packed onsite under hygienic conditions in a large Class 7 cleanroom.
Robinson Healthcare use only high performance materials to ensure the end product delivers customer satisfaction. Fast Aid Advanced plasters use a high quality substrate that is strong, durable and yet highly conformable. It is also highly breathable to help prevent skin maceration, or wrinkling. Fast Aid waterproof plasters share the same material for optimum performance. All Fast Aid plasters either have an antiseptic wound pad or are presented sterile for added protection against infection.
Robinson Healthcare fully understands that a consistent and reliable supply of quality products is critical to retail operations. Consequently, massive stocks of finished goods and raw materials are held across the full range of products to maintain a reliable, uninterrupted supply to customers. Robinson Healthcare also works closely with retailers to develop and offer own brand solutions for high volume or specialist ranges. Full control over the manufacturing process permits a flexible approach to customer requirements on materials, performance and packaging.
The Fast Aid range has been carefully designed to offer consumers a choice when selecting first aid products, based on price and performance. This is further augmented by the addition of Patch & Go plasters, which combine basic, popular products with good performance and exceptional value for money. For retailers this offers a three tiered approach to maximise sales and profitability:
All products are supplied in attractive and distinctive packaging designed to reflect the product tiering, whilst remaining eye-catching and consistent across all products within the range. Packaging is informative for the consumer with details to assist product selection, pack contents and clear instructions for use. All plasters are supplied in packs that are free standing and also have integral euro slot tabs, offering a choice of how the product is displayed. Selected products are supplied in retail ready packaging (RRP) to optimise merchandising.
The Robinson Healthcare first aid range is complemented by a range of personal care products including Fast Aid branded products such as Heat Pads and Relief-Xtra magnetic therapy patches. Considered together, Robinson Healthcare has an outstanding, comprehensive range of high performance, high quality products available from stock, to satisfy both consumers and retailers.
